They were acquired by the IIAF and continued in service with the IRIAF.

"Iran's P-3Fs can be armed with lightweight Mk 46 torpedos, depth charges, or gravity bombs, but not AShMs." At the following link, there is a photograph and an illustration of a P-3F armed with AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missiles. The translated caption for the illustration says: "P-3F N 5-8702 - the only Iranian "Orion" that was converted to carry AGM-84 "Harpoon" missiles. The plane crashed near the city of Shiraz on the 15th of February 1985."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1620264550074013695.post-48437796972085540072011-09-27T18:48:39.828-07:002011-09-27T18:48:39.828-07:00This program seems to be very troubled. Kish Air, which used a couple of the first examples withdrew them from service after a short while. The only organization which has them in service currently is the National Police, so far as I know. The aircraft design seems solid enough, the Ukraine has reported few problems. Is it a lack of financial support or problems with the problem of a technical nature which has stalled ?progress?Tacitusnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1620264550074013695.post-47852182976875662552011-09-07T09:04:39.341-07:002011-09-07T09:04:39.341-07:00Galen please check out this video :

Regardless though, assuming it made its way to either the IRIN or IRIGCN (it is after all, very similar to the IRGCAFs An-74)

The thing about the An-148 is that it's jet powered which means it's going to be fuel inefficient at the low altitudes required by patrolling aircraft. In order to attain efficiency from this system, any patrols would have to require high-altitude "ferrys" to the patrol area such as the Arabian Sea (high altitude is where jets gain efficiency). Short range patrols over the Persian Gulf would be better served by a turbo-prop powered aircraft. Jet propulsion isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just requires that Iran fully invest in a long-range power projection capability that would be able to utilize this aspect.Author: Galen Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14420998943532765616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1620264550074013695.post-27725945926595572352011-09-03T02:28:25.699-07:002011-09-03T02:28:25.699-07:00can you please talk about Antonov-148/158 plane an...can you please talk about Antonov-148/158 plane and compare it with other plane in the above comparison.
its seem that AN-148 is a good candidate for replacing P-3 missions, isn't it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1620264550074013695.post-39199481629090581922011-09-01T14:01:37.772-07:002011-09-01T14:01:37.772-07:00Another great job by Mr.Galen Wright . keep up the...Another great job by Mr.Galen Wright . keep up the good work.Der Mantikornoreply@blogger.com
